Arrest warrant issued for Alabama magistrate who pulled gun at city hall after dispute

An arrest warrant was issued today for a town magistrate who was caught on video brandishing a gun outside city hall after a clash with a resident in traffic court.

Now, both women involved in the March 28 altercation have changes against them.

Tarrant City Magistrate Tanilya Jackson, 43, is charged with possession of a firearm in a building in violation of a state code that prohibits weapons inside certain public buildings….

….Jackson’s arrest stems from an altercation in traffic court in Tarrant between Jackson and Raven Shearer, a local resident, which escalated in the lobby before the proceeding. Shearer was in court for a traffic citation originally but was later arrested for disorderly conduct.

The conflict continued outside when Shearer returned to get her car and words were exchanged with Jackson, who brandished a gun before sending her minor son inside the building.

“You think you got it going on with that gun, b****,” Shearer shouted on the video.

Jackson, who was walking to her car with her son, instructed him to go back into the building after taking a gun from her handbag. The other woman is not visible on camera.

“Let’s go,” Jackson said standing alone while holding the weapon in one hand and a cell phone in the other.

The city of Tarrant in Alabama isn’t someplace you want to live, or visit, or even drive near….

That is a pretty precipitous drop, from 78% White to less than 25% White from 2000 to 2020 while the percentage of blacks almost tripled and mestizos increased more than ten-fold. The local high school (Tarrant High) is even worse, with a student body that is 49% black, 42% mestizo and only 3% White and that makes it sound like the only Whites left in town are probably older people. Oddly enough there seems to be some discipline problems with the 2G student-scholars….

Maybe blacks are disproportionately suspended because they disproportionately are poorly behaved? Nah. The test scores are even worse, a whopping 1% of students are at grade level in math, 8% in science and 16% in English. This is a town in a death spiral.

Add to that magistrates that will pull a gun on you if you get into a verbal altercation and you have a lovely little town full of 2G Southern hospitality. It isn’t like it isn’t well known that there are cameras everywhere but even a “professional” and tame 2G still chimps out and pulls a gun on someone?

Surveillance cameras that are mounted in offices throughout the building have chronicled a series of political fights, personnel disputes, insults and even a punch lobbed by a longtime councilman against the mayor.

Shearer, 31, said the conflict began in the lobby as she waited for traffic court. Shearer said Jackson was rude to her as she stood nearby while calling her work supervisor. The argument then continued inside the courtroom, Shearer said.

Shearer said a police officer then grabbed her to take her out of the building. Shearer said the magistrate then came outside to antagonize her while she was being arrested.

“She’s just standing there laughing like it’s funny,” Shearer said.

Shearer admitted that she used foul language and spat at the magistrate. She was then thrown to the ground by a police officer.

It is somewhat difficult to even comprehend the lack of impulse control. Tanilya Jackson was the magistrate of this little town, certainly a well paying job for that area and yet she couldn’t control herself when she perceived herself “disrespected” and now presumably she will lose her gig as magistrate.

In just a few minutes of research I came away with that warm fuzzy feeling I often get when viewing the delightful results of black self-governance. The town of Tarrant is a hot mess. A nearly 80 year old White city council member named Tommy Bryant punched the black mayor Wayman Newton after Newton made sexually explicit comments about Bryant’s wife, and Bryant was later found not guilty of assault. The very same magistrate Tanilya Jackson charged the chief of police, Wendell Major, with a slew of inappropriate behavior. The police chief in question has had a tumultuous career in Tarrant….

The city is currently paying for two fire chiefs, Jason Rickels who was fired by Mayor Newton and his replacement Patrick Bennett, while a lawsuit plays out that looks to pay Rickels nearly $400,000 as Newton fired him inappropriately after of course accusing the White fire chief of being…you guessed it….“racist”. Just last Monday a police officer was called in to a closed door city council meeting over the fire chief situation featuring adults yelling at each other to shut up, calling each other idiots and Mayor Newman challenging the same 80 year old councilman to fight: Police called in after closed-door Tarrant council meeting erupts in shouts, insults and taunts.

I think we can safely say that the experiment of black self-governance hasn’t worked.
