A Chicago woman is accused of fatally stabbing her ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend on Friday while on electronic monitoring for allegedly trying to stab the same woman during a home invasion in March.

A judge originally detained Kimari Tousant as a safety threat after prosecutors charged her with the home invasion. But Tousant’s attorneys filed a motion to have her released, citing a state law that requires pregnant women to be kept out of jail in all but the most extreme circumstances.

How delightful! The sequence of events is…well you have to read it for yourself. This is from the first stabbing.

In a detention petition filed on March 15, prosecutors told Judge Margaret Ogarek that Tousant, 20, went to her ex-boyfriend’s home in Evergreen Park after calling him repeatedly without getting an answer. The man was also the father of her unborn child, according to court filings.

Tousant proceeded to go to the man’s home very late on March 13 and broke in through a side window, the petition said. The petition said that her ex-boyfriend and his new girlfriend, Jessica Flagg, 20, were in bed, and Flagg was talking with someone on FaceTime.

Prosecutors claim Tousant jumped on and began hitting Flagg, which awakened the boyfriend’s mother, who intervened, allowing Flagg to escape to another room.

But Tousant allegedly broke away from the mother and began fighting Flagg in the other room, where Tousant found a knife and made stabbing motions toward Flagg, the petition stated. Flagg felt the knifepoint on her body at one point, but she was unharmed.

The mother intervened again, allowing Flagg to escape and lock herself in a bathroom until police arrived.

Ah, so her baby daddy had moved on to some other chick once he knocked her up. That is so out of character for black men, I am sure he planned on coming back to her once he picked up that forty and pack of menthols at the store. As she was pregnant with a tiny future felon, the courts allowed her to be released….

Ten days later, Tousant’s attorneys filed a motion to review her detention status. The lawyer noted that a court officer recommended the judge should release Tousant without conditions, saying she was at low risk of committing a new crime, including violent crimes.

Tousant’s attorney also argued that Tousant worked part-time at a hospital and was enrolled part-time in a nursing program. She was also “facing high risk complications of said pregnancy,” the lawyer wrote in their motion.

“It is the policy of the State of Illinois to prevent pregnant pre-trial detainees from delivering while in custody,” the attorney wrote, unless a court finds that jail is the only option that could keep the public and individuals safe.

The initial assault occurred in March but the second, fatal encounter just happened in December and took place in front of cops who were trying to intervene. She claims “self-defense” but: “…video, text messages, social media posts, witness statements, and observations by police officers all pointed toward Tousant as the assailant”. Oops, it is rarely smart to post your intention to commit murder on social media.

As this happened in December, and the initial AWP (assault while pregnant) was in March, I assume she has delivered her future felon. No word on what happened to the baby, I am sure it will grow up to be a model citizen with mommy in jail after a near certain conviction on first degree murder charges.

Anyway, at least she didn’t let her prior failure get in the way of achieving her goals.
