It looks like even the Orange Man is impatient with the pace of deportations.
Caleb Vittelo wasn’t fired…..
The Trump administration has removed the top official at Immigration and Customs Enforcement one month into his tenure, as White House officials have turned increasingly frustrated the agency isn’t arresting immigrants fast enough to satisfy the president’s deportation goals.
Caleb Vitello, a veteran ICE official who was installed as acting director when President Donald Trump took office, will be reassigned to a senior role overseeing daily enforcement operations, according to Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin.
Vitello is “no longer in an administrative role” and would remain in charge of “finding, arresting, and deporting illegal aliens, which is a major priority” of the president and DHS Secretary Kristi L. Noem, McLaughlin said. She did not say who would replace Vitello as ICE acting director.

I read that as Vitello won’t be doing paperwork and will instead focus on actual operations. On the flip side, it shows that Trump is giving these guys a pretty short leash when it comes to showing results.
The prior post on the seeming lack of focus on deportations in favor of DOGE, Deportation > DOGE, got a lot of reaction here and on Substack. I get what people are saying and I will add this. ICE is moving from an outfit that mostly was processing people through the system for bullshit “asylum hearing” dates that they never are going to show up for, and turning back into a law enforcement organization and that is taking some time.
Something even more pertinent to the question. Under the best of circumstances, actual deportations in the sense of an illegal being rounded up by law enforcement and forcibly removed from the country is an enormous undertaking. We have tossed numbers around but by any measure the total illegal alien population in America exceeds 20 million with the more realistic number being north of 30 million. But this is what Tom Homan is talking about…..
700,000 “criminal illegal aliens”? All illegal aliens are criminal, the word illegal is right in the name. With 700,000 illegal aliens that are presumably violent criminals, divided by the total number of days in the Trump second term of 1,461, that works out to 479 violent criminals being deported per day. The problem is that 700,000 illegals is only around 3.5% of the conservative estimate of 20 million total illegals in this country. To deport even 10 million would require almost 7,000 deportations per day and that is far higher than even the aggressive goals set by Vitello last month:
In late January, Vitello told ICE’s 25 field office directors they should arrest at least 75 immigrants per day for a national daily total of 1,200 to 1,500. ICE officers have been working six and even seven days per week since then, but Trump border czar Tom Homan and Noem have blamed agency officials for missing their targets. Homan did not respond to a request for comment.
ICE averaged more than 800 arrests per day nationwide in late January in the ten days after Trump took office, publishing its results on social media amid a publicity campaign that invited television crews to embed with officers. The pace of arrests slowed during the first two weeks of February to fewer than 600 daily, however, and ICE stopped publishing data on social media, saying it would move to a monthly format.
Current and former ICE officials said the enforcement blitz in late January depleted the lists of targets ICE developed before Trump took office with the names, addresses and other data on immigrants they could arrest. Officer teams have not had time to build out new target lists.
Officers have also struggled to meet their quotas because immigrants are refusing to open their doors when ICE officers knock. The enforcement teams generally do not possess criminal arrest warrants that would allow them to force their way into their targets’ homes. ICE officials say they can’t afford to leave teams of officers waiting around for targeted immigrants to exit their homes.
At 1,200 per day that only works out to less than half a million per year or around 1.7 million total in 4 years. That is barely making a dent in the total that needs to go and make no mistake, they all need to go. Not just the ones that have committed crimes subsequent to sneaking into the country, all of them.
In order to deport even 20 million people, ICE would need to deport 5 million per year or over 13,000 per day or 570 per hour, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. That is not really feasible so what to do?
Keep deporting people.
Make it public. Make a big production of it. Show ICE raiding businesses and handcuffing people. Show flights leaving the country even though that is an extraordinarily inefficient way to get rid of these people.
Then do a LOT more of this….

I have always said that if you want to get rid of the illegals, you have to start putting the people hiring illegals in jail. If you jail people for breaking Federal laws, they will stop employing those illegals. No work means no money means no real reason to stay here, especially if they are worried about getting swept up in ICE raids. Don’t let their kids attend public schools funded by American citizens. In summary, take away the incentives for coming here and staying here and ramp up the downsides like being unable to work at all and not getting free schooling for your kids.
Illegals come here because the benefits outweigh the negatives like having to get to and then across the border, being made to work long hours for substandard pay, often at crappy jobs, living in constant fear of being caught, etc. Despite a lifestyle that sounds horrible to you and me, they come anyway because they can make more money than what they are able to earn at home in Mexico or wherever, they are safer, they get free benefits and their kids get access to free schooling. Any little Pedros or Juanitas they have while here get the golden ticket, American citizenship. There are just too many incentives for illegals.
Get rid of those incentives and make it as unpleasant as possible for illegals and many will deport themselves. Something most normies all across the political spectrum don’t understand:
These illegal aliens or “undocumented migrants” or whatever you call them have no connection to America.
They aren’t here because they love America and they certainly don’t love Americans. They are not “natural conservatives” and they don’t share our values, nor do they want to. America isn’t their home, it is a place they come to make money so they can send it back to wherever they actually call home. Most have no more affection for America, no more connection to the American story, than a cloud of locust eating a field of corn has to the farmer.
Forcible deportations won’t get 30 million illegals out of here but used publicly in tandem with locking down the border, making it impossible to get work here, preventing the children of illegals from filling our schools and whatever else you can think of might be enough to get a steady stream of mestizos, Haitians and whatever else to decide to leave here and go back home. The message should be loud and clear:
You are no longer welcome here. Get. The. Fuck. Out.
If Trump should ask, I would happily take on the role of “Making Illegals Terrified Again” czar.
Hopefully the bakery was just the beginning. Hit a Chinese-owned Smithfield plant or Tyson Chicken. Let the arrests go up the corporate chain. This will take some time as federal attorneys get in place. I'm willing to be patient. Now come summer and we don't have any mass arrests, then yeah, it was all a scam.
Taxing remittances abroad at 50% or more would make it a lot more expensive for them to stay here too.
