There is a new report of the 22 most dangerous cities in America, on a per capita basis: These Are The Most Dangerous Cities In The US
Just for fun and even though I already know the answer before I start, I decided to look at the demographics of each of these cities to see what it tells us, using Wikipedia.
In the number one slot:
Bessemer, AL
Violent Crime Rate (per 1,000 residents): 33.1
Your chance of being a victim: 1 in 30Bessemer is the new champion with a 1 in 30 chance of being a victim of a violent crime!
This year, Monroe, LA was replaced by Bessemer, AL, dropping from its two-year ranking as the number one most violent city in America to the ranking of third. Bessemer has 33.18 violent crimes per 1,000 population, and the chance of being a violent crime victim is 1 in 30.
A 1 in 30 chance? Those are not great odds. In 2020 Bessemer was just shy of 70% black, 18.74% White and 8.86% mestizo. I will use B, W, and M going forward.

Alabama and Michigan are tied with 4 cities each on the list. Of the 22 cities listed, 8 have a White population larger than the black population although several of those are awfully close, while 14 (63%) have blacks as either an absolute majority or are the largest racial minority. Other than Springfield, Missouri all of the cities on the list have at least a 20% black population.
Social media lefties often will claim that Republicans are bad on crime because so many “red states” have such high violent crime rates but in a state like Alabama with a Republican Governor and super majorities of Republicans in the state House and Senate, the most violent cities are places like 70% black Bessemer, 51% black Mobile and 68% black Birmingham. That doesn’t prove Republicans are soft on crime, just that blacks are disproportionately involved in crime.
Likewise states with low crime like New Hampshire and Vermont have low crime rates because of demographics. New Hampshire has a Republican Governor and slim Republican majorities in both chambers of the “General Court” but it also is less than 2% black. Vermont has a liberal “Republican” Governor, a Progressive Lieutenant Governor and a Democrat super majority in both chambers of their state legislature. It also is only 1.3% black and that is why Vermont, in spite of Democrat leadership, is a very safe state.
Your odds of being the victim of a violent crime are driven by race more than by politics, although Democrat politics can make bad situations worse (Chicago, California). The rule is one we all know and live by:
Avoid crowds and especially avoid crowds with more than zero blacks. Never, ever relax.

Chicago, Washington, D.C and New York would certainly be on those lists if the police were actually ACCEPTING police reports of the crimes being committed. But when the cops aren't arresting people for thefts and assaults, then OF COURSE the crime rates will appear to be low.
